Thanks to going over my monthly d/l allowance, my speed has been 'shaped' and I'm practically on dial up speed. Aaaaargh. This is killing me. It goes back to normal at the start of next month, but right now I've got about another week of this wading through molasses speed. Which means El-Jay is almost impossible to navigate.

Anyway, I'd like to wrap this wallpaper contest up soon! Next Thursday I'll have money to buy the prizes and post them, so I'd like to end it by Wednesday 27th June. So if you haven't got your little blurb/catchy synopsis in yet, hurry it up!!! I love all the entries so far, so this is going to be a hard one, and I need more to choose from! *grin*

Plus I'm going to go ahead with the Favourite Songs of All Time project and set up a comm for it soon. Like I mentioned before, there'll be no time limit for that one - just post them when you have them.

Who's interested in getting together for a Favourite Songs of All Time project?

My thinking is this:

we each come up with our favourite songs of all time. No limitations on the songs at all - it can range from classical to jazz to punk to teenybopper pop. Your list could have Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols followed by That's Amore by Dean Martin followed by Barbie Girl by Aqua followed by Beethovan's fifth symphony.

Then we design covers for them. Front only or front and back, whatever. Designs can be anything your heart desires, to a fancy graphic of your fave tv stars for no reason, to hand drawn stick figures to stock photos of a sunset. Anything. But preferably with a track and artist listing if you're doing a back. It doesn't matter if it's bad. It doesn't matter if you don't 'do' graphics. Rope in someone to help if you wish.

Then we upload them. Either complete, or song by song for those on dial-up.

I was thinking maybe organizing a comm for it, and we could list why those songs are our faves, whether it's because it reminds us of a certain time in our life, or because it's light and boppy and just rather fun, or because the lyrics are deep and meaningful.

I thought at first of burning them to a disc and then sharing them, but then I figured if there's a few of us involved, it can get to expensive having to burn a few discs and print out a few covers, plus the postage. If everything is uploaded, we can take our time d/ling them etc.

And hey, how cool to have a disc that you will then remind you of that person?

Anyone interested? No time limit on this. You can do it whenever you like.

Character Names Contest: 1


Blurb/synopsis Contest: 3 (yay! keep 'em coming!)

I just had an idea. I'm looking for a 'blurb' for a wallpaper and because my brain is empty and I am lame, I thought I would throw this open to everyone - and the one I like the best and choose will get an actual prize! yes, a real honest-to-goodness true physical prize!!

I have a wallpaper I'm creating, and I'm looking for something to write on it. I'm going to link the wallpaper here so you can see what I'm talking about. Go have a look now:

Right, back now? Ok, let's move on. As you can see, I've named it 'Band of Three'. Yes, not very original I know, but it was the first thing that popped into my head. Now, I'm seeing this as three characters from a story. Whether it's a novel or graphic novel, either one. Or you could even think of it as a tv show or movie perhaps. On the left hand side, where all the blank white space is, I want to write something about them.

And that's where YOU come in. Write it for me. Give me a 'blurb' about the characters and who they are perhaps. It could be a synopsis for a new show/movie. It could be the blurb on the back of the book or graphic novel. Something that would prick your interest and make you pick up the book/comic or watch the show/movie.

Don't go for dry and factual. Don't do something like "So there are three women, ok? And this character is named this and she is the rebel of the group. And that character is named that and she is the magic user of the group...blah blah". I don't want dry. I want mystical or exciting. something along the lines of:

"In a time of ancient gods, warlords, and kings, a land in turmoil cried out for a hero. She was Xena, a mighty princess, forged in the heat of battle...Her courage will change the world."

er...*koff* you get the picture right? something punchy and dramatic.

Now, to the prizes.

Ok first prize (and er..only prize) will be:

3 - yes that's right - three packets of TimTams! If your blurb/synopsis is the one I like the best and the one I choose, you will receive by airmail, as soon as possible, three whole packets of TimTams!! Guaranteed to be unopened and uneaten by me! Packed as securely as possible to minimize any damage by mail. And if you change the name from Band of Three to something I like even better, you will receive an extra packet of TimTams!

I reserve the right to add another prize if entries received mean I have to choose a second place winner!

I just had another thought - I'm doing separate wallpapers for each of the characters, and all the names I come up for them are fairly lame.

If you can come up with names for the three characters, there'll be 3 - yes, three Violet Crumbles thrown in, if your blurb is the winner also. If only your names are chosen, then you will receive the Violet Crumbles on their own.

edit: I want to clarify what these wallpapers are for, as I realized some of you may be curious. These wallpapers and images will not be used for any profit-making purposes. I will not be selling them, nor will they be on any subscription only based sites. I do however, reserve the right to offer them as free wallpapers from any of my sites if I choose to do that. They may simply sit on my own personal computer to be used as inspiration for a series of pictures to be shown to people (again, not being sold or making any money whatsoever from them) in my personal gallery, or as i said, offered as free wallpapers from my graphics site, or just used as my own wallpaper. If at any time in the future I want to print them out and sell them, permission from the writer will be asked beforehand. If permission is not granted from the writer, they will not be printed and sold.Does this sound fair enough? Y'all know me - I've never sold any of my graphics (and I'd probably fall over dead if someone actually wanted to buy one of my renders), and I do this for fun and the love of it. This contest was created cos I thought it might be a bit of fun for everyone - plus I know how you all love the TimTams! *g*
